Speculate Now
“Reflecting on the past to re-imagine the present and rethink the future”.
As a result of the age of industrialisation, the connection that exists between a product and the individual has been ignored. An imbalance between intimidating industrial processes and the products they produce has resulted in a disconnection between the existence of an object and the person interacting with it. This workstation speculates on future human-product interaction by examining the impact of having input into the process of manufacture. If we assign aesthetic, human and poetic functions to production, what impact will this have on the product? The provision of a device that enables the construction of nondescript objects with embedded narratives challenges current design conventions. The meaning encapsulated in the experience transcends typical utilitarianism and speculates on the impacts of having stronger relationships to artifacts and what this means for both the individual and society.
